Module 2: Data in Agriculture

Now that you’ve learned some foundational concepts about data in  🧑‍💻Module 1: Data 101 , let’s shift our attention to data in farming and agriculture. In this module we will look at the huge range of different types of agricultural data and the different ways you collect agricultural data on your farm. We will also touch briefly on some of the challenges that can arise in connection with agriculture data.

Before we move on to talk about data management ( 📊Module 3: Working with Data ) and other more advanced topics like cybersecurity ( 🔐Module 6: Cybersecurity ), it is important to have a common understanding of what we mean by agriculture data and the various players involved in the agriculture data ecosystem. Identifying the scope and diversity of agriculture data is the first step towards building a solid approach to data management and data governance.

After completion of this module you will be able to:

1. Identify the different types of agriculture data and how data is generated on-farm.

2. Define key stakeholders in the agri-food data ecosystem and how this connects with the food value chain.

3. Examine sources and flows of data within your farm operation.

4. Describe potential obstacles to agriculture data collection.
